In an op-ed column in Pennsylvania's
The Morning Call, pharmacy owner Robert Frankil
writes in opposition to the proposed Express Scripts and Medco merger. The merger of pharmaceutical insurance middle-men is feared to create anti-competitive and anti-consumer consequences.
"My patients, my business and my profession are under attack by the proposed merger of Express Scripts and Medco Health Solutions," Frankil's column says. "These large and highly profitable companies have asked the federal government to allow them to become a single mega-company that will dominate the prescription benefits market."
"If the
Federal Trade Commission approves this proposal, the combined company will dominate the market, allowing it to squeeze the health care system for even higher profits at the expense of patients who will have fewer choices."
